My Friends,
Today, I stand at the precipice of a moment both deeply personal and profoundly communal. It is with a heart full of conflicting emotions that I unveil to you the cover of my debut poetry collection, “We Alive, Beloved.” Which will be released on June 11th, 2024. This unveiling, however, is not merely an announcement of a new literary offering; it is honestly the revealing of pieces of my soul.
“We Alive, Beloved” moves beyond being a poetry collection; it's a celebration of the profound aspects of our existence. Each poem seeks to immortalize the fleeting moments of joy, love, resilience, and inspiration that often slip through the grasp of our fast-paced lives.
Poetry, my first written love, was a gift given to me by my grandmother. Her words, and love of the craft, taught me the power of expressing myself in this medium. The beauty of our shared humanity, and the unyielding strength of the written word. This collection, my dear friends, means more to me than almost anything I have ever written. It is a testament to the lessons she imparted, a journey through the landscapes of memory, struggle, and hope.
Yet, in this hour of personal joy, I find myself weighted by a profound sense of responsibility. The world, as it stands, is teetering between beauty and tragedy. The heartaches in Gaza and the Democratic Republic of Congo resonate with a frequency that cannot, and should not, be ignored. The plight of the Palestinian people and the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Congo are not mere footnotes in our history; they are urgent calls to action, pleas for empathy, and demands for justice.
In this light, the act of sharing my work with you takes on a new dimension. I have grappled with the notion of celebration in times of such sorrow and suffering. Yet, I am reminded that art, in all its forms, has the power to heal, to inspire, and to enact change.
Therefore, in an effort to marry my passion for my debut poetry collection with my commitment to social change, I have made a decision. It is with a sense of duty that I am not only announcing “We Alive, Beloved”, but also that I will be donating 50% of all profits from this poetry collection to support those suffering in Palestine and Congo. The contributions will be directed to the Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund and Friends of the Congo, organizations tirelessly working to alleviate the pain and provide hope to those caught in the relentless tide of these crises.
This collection, while a part of me, is now also a part of a larger, more urgent narrative. It is a voice in the chorus calling for change, a light of hope in a world often shrouded in darkness. I invite you, dear friends, to not only journey through the pages of my poetry but to join me in this endeavor of compassion and change.
Thank you for your unwavering support. May these words touch your hearts, and may our collective efforts bring about a brighter tomorrow for those in Gaza and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
