I didn’t have the emotional capacity today to write a full essay on the devastating story of Hind Rajab. But, this piece here encapsulates most of it.
High-level: Hind Rajab, a six-year-old girl from Gaza, was found murdered along with several of her relatives and two paramedics who attempted to save her.
The tragic discovery occurred just hours ago, 12 days after Hind last communicated with her mother, pleading for help while trapped in a vehicle under fire. Her body, along with those of her relatives, was found in a bullet-ridden, tank-crushed car near a destroyed ambulance.
This is what is happening to Palestinians.
All I could muster was this poem for Hind, hoping that I might honor her and continue to remind the world what is happening.
Thank you. I wish my Jewish friends didn’t interpret my heart shattering for all victims of this senseless violence as anti Semitism. Nobody should kill over land. The earth belongs to all of us. People drew the lines. The planet did not. Thank you for this beautiful poem and for the gift of a moment to grieve and acknowledge.
Thank you for this tribute to Hind. The situation in Palestine is heart wrenching. I wish we could get this to stop.
