Thank you for writing this. I’ve been grieving the loss of what was in these spaces for a while and I know I’m not alone. And I’m grateful to be in your orbit, friend. Onward. ✊🏼🫶🏼
This is an excellent piece. Thank you for digging into this and putting it out there for all to read. So many have forgotten how to be social in real life. Some have never learned that skill because online is all they know. It will be fascinating for sociologists and researchers 50-100 years from now to look back on this time and see what it did to us in the long run.
Very good article about how social media used to be a new and unique way for people to connect... But before I discuss things further, don't forget to like, subscribe, and hit the notification bell!!
Sorry, I got off topic, there. That's what social media does to us.
I’ve been thinking this for a long time now and it’s comforting to discover I’m not the only one. I am not an avid poster on any social media platform, but recently started a Substack of my own, to escape the endless and mindless scrolling. I’d rather spend my time creating instead of being sold something I don’t want or need. Thanks for this insightful piece.
“This grotesque change underscores a bitter truth about the social media age: no matter how connective and open the platform claims to be, its heartbeats are regulated by the concealed hands of its owners, puppeteers who pull strings and reshape narratives on a whim.”
Thank you. We’ll said. But I’m glad social media gave me the chance to meet some really decent people, like you. And last week, I found out that a person I follow on IG lives in my area and we met for coffee and had a wonderful face to face. And we plan to do it again.
Thank you so much for this prescient insight. You’re so right. I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately, and was just having this very conversation with a friend. I am glad that the algorithms led me to you, Fred! Your work has been inspiring and enlightening.
Thank you, Frederick, for the drill down on social media. With astonishing speed, a 'social' platform can influence the direction of society. Scary indeed.

Thoughtful, beautiful, heartbreaking.

Was it ever really social at all, or was it data collection and bad marketing
The End of Social media was very well written. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
I agree with you completely! I feel like Cassandra talking about these things, but you've put it beautifully. Yes. Let's go back.
