Mr. Joseph, There are few writers that offer such moments of pure communion. May the power of your small rebellions live large in our minds and hearts.
As always, your words come just when I need them the most. Sometimes just opening my eyes in the morning to this world's reality is unbearable. But it is a gift. Thank you for the reminder.
“more like a river” indeed. So beautiful. Sometimes I think that even our language is so embedded with racism that there are no words to talk about way out. By Design. This is daunting on a good day.
Love the concept of resilience as a river. A shield can be broken but water forges it's path no matter what sometimes as a trickle sometimes as a raging flood. It reminds of how I learned to like poetry again after going to an online meditation retreat on the Dharma & Compassion through Poetry where all the poems read 20+ were water element related and many about resiliency in their own ways. I see those same elements and concepts in so many of your poems for me.
Love the poem “Mornin’” (the other poem didn’t load). Also love your new book, gifted to me by my loving spouse. Thank you for sharing your enormous gifts with us.

Thank you. That’s all I can say right now… thank you.
Two excellent poems, Frederick. Particularly, for me, the first: "Today, the Light."
"I wake to the hum of a world
That has tried to unmake me,
The weight of shadows
Still pressed into the sheets.
Outside, the city churns,
A machine of iron and smoke, gears grinding
Against the soft bodies of dreams."
Wow! Magificent.......

Love these four lines:
Despite the night, despite the long road of scars,
I have arrived at another day.
And isn't that a miracle--to stand again in the light,
to whisper my name into the vast, indifferent sky.
Thanks
Just bought your latest book after reading these two poems. Thank you for the beauty and hope!
