Thank you for sharing the proposed speech. I'm wondering when people will wake up to the reality that the Democratic party has been captured by AIPAC and the Israeli lobby. The only reason that no Palestinian voice could be heard is that the Israeli lobby crushes politicians who make even the smallest break with full, genocidal solidarity. You can't get or keep a job nowadays if you question Israel on even the smallest level. This has crushed speech and protest. We need to vote against politicians who have been bought and paid for by Israel, if we ever want to see a stop to the ethnic cleansing. It will take years to do this, but we need to start now.
I´m so disappointed with the DNC and I very much agree with you. Joy needs substance and I feel like we are in a hamster wheel of perpetual gaslighting. We have been under a democratic president these past 4 years and yet rights have been taken away, no headway at all in gun violence, and then the BILLIONS being sent to Israel to continue their horrific apartheid and genocide of the Palestinian people. I´m still ”Uncommitted”.
Here’s the thing although I appreciate your article. It’s a bit disingenuous. If Trump gets in, guess what you won’t get a damn thing form him. Not one iota of support. Matter of fact he is all in with Israel with no brakes ready to steam roll over these people and not give a care in the world. He will roll over these people like they don’t even exist. And the fact there is this false equivalency. The devil you know is the one you should stick with always leave with, who brought you to the party, don’t get to the party and find new dance partners because that my friend is how you spell the end of your very political existence. So stay home and get TRUMP. THAT'LL TEACH EM!
Respectfully, this has nothing to do with what was written. All that was stated was that the uncommitted delegates should have been given the right to speak. Simple as that. You’re projecting a great deal.
Question.....Why do you think a man is willing to go to Trump begging for his assistance. This same man was made to wait outside of Trump's office for 3 hours before both he and his wife when Trump was first elected. He was made to kiss the ring as he begged and received approval to begin to move the Capital to Jerusalem? He hated Obama and did not like him and he certainly was not going to get any favorable treatment form Obama's Vice President who is now President Biden. It is because he does not have allies in the Democratic Party because they see straight through him and his debauchery.
We have an allegiance to Israel but not to a mad man. Not one that created as many suspect this whole fiasco as a play to keep himself in power. You are aware that the day this occurred that there was a major protest PRE-PLANNED against this man by the people of Israel planned only a day or so later but this never came to be as we've been spinning preoccupied with the invasion. Which some would argue was his plan all along to remain in power.
Projecting or not you’ll see when election day comes. We have no time to play around with these notions gripe privately reach out to someone get your point across come together stump together win together don’t play around because they’re not playing they can care less about these gripes, they are coming and they’re coming hard you’ll see First thing to go is media first thing to go are blogs that speak against The newly crowned king. These people are as serious as death. They are organized as stomping like robots with a bunch of mindless minions behind them on nonsense and BS while we’re over here, trying to be the intellectuals in the room. No one cares. They are playing for keeps while we're on the other hand writing hemming and hawing diatribes to get your act together because they are coming.
Uncommitted statement was a beautiful thing - appropriate, reasonable, inspiring. What a blunder, what stupidity, what cowardice by the DNC to deny them a voice! Bowing down to AIPAC may be their undoing, yet….
Here's the speech that should have been delivered at the DNC.
Since it wasn't allowed, I hope the Uncommitted folks and all who support Palestine and want to see the genocide end vote for Jill Stein and the Green Party.
It's unacceptable that Palestinians weren't given a chance to speak, and shows clearly that the party has no intention of stopping this genocide. They continue to provide money and arms. How can they say they're working tireless towards a ceasefire?
Life is a series of choices. The DNC has an election to win first and foremost. While I share the frustration of the Palestinian people, two minutes at the convention would be lip service. The challenge is bigger than that and the solutions more difficult.
“To deny the Uncommitted movement a platform is to deny the legitimacy of their concerns, to pretend that their voices do not matter.” I see it as not handing a sound bite to Fox and Convicted Felon Donald Trump.
Let’s win the election, then stand together for Ukraine and Palestine.
respectfully , that's flawed logic. If the Democrats won't listen while actively campaigning for votes, what incentive do they have to listen afterward?
Harris-Walz have to win an election. Positioning more deeply on Gaza would help in slices of the electorate. Harris included a position on Gaza in her acceptance speech. That’s all the campaign feels is required at the moment. When you run for office you make choices. Those choices during a campaign do not limit future actions. They only establish a minimum position, not a maximum.
I truly hope she can stop the Israeli aggression once she is the president. Till then all she has left is to work with Biden for a ceasefire which has been continually stopped by the Israeli cabinet each and every time. Hamas has constantly asked for a ceasefire only to be blamed for not cooperating.
He’s ignored Biden’s call to stop the attacks twice that I remember. Britain’s previous parliament hasn’t support the Palestinian rights in any way in their voting. It isn’t as though we all can’t see what is happening in Gaza. The UN isn’t supported by its member countries
so they remain weak. They have asked countless times for Israel to stop the aggression. The “War Room” has ignored them.
I always like to hear what you have to say. I agree. Thank you for sharing that speech 🙏🏻 I have concern that ignoring a large part of the Democratic party and the protest vote will do harm. It brings back 2016 vibes that lost us the election.
Oh my goodness thank you for sharing the proposed speech, I hadn’t yet read that and my gosh was it good.
This is absolutely an aside, but the lack of empathy and complete negation of calling out any sort of dominator model feels very much like this campaign is just trying to ‘win at patriarchy’ as opposed to enacting social change for the collective wellbeing. Even with the conversation on the men around VP Harris vs. her platform and policies—still androcentric (and specifically white male androcentric.) It’s not sitting well with me.

Very well said, Pamela!!

And she didn’t even say, “stop funding and arming Israel”, which is the true call.

Thank you for posting Ruwa Romman’s proposed speech. It is mighty fine and should have been included.
I love reading your work and am now ordering a copy of your book, Patriarchy Blues. Keep speaking up!
It is phenomenal! Sending love on your reading and learning journey 💜
I would have liked to see this speech shared at the DNC
Anyone who thinks that either the Republicans or Democrats will do anything that is right is at this point is not in their right mind!
They are all sell outs and they will only do what their buyers will command them.

Who’s supplying weapons to the apartheid terror state? I’ve never seen a more brainwashed populace than Americans, regardless of party affiliation.
